Italy keen to set up Gucci, Armani stores in India

Terming India’s decision to allow 100 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) in single-brand retail as a “revolution”, Italy today said several companies have shown interest in setting up stores in the country.

Italian Trade Commissioner Erica Di Giovancarlo said businessmen of both the countries can collaborate in sectors like automobiles, fashion and textiles through joint ventures.

This decision (allowing 100 percent FDI in single–brand) of the government is a revolution in this market. I am sure it will catch interest of lot of companies…,” Giovancarlo told PTI. The decision has paved the way for global Italian chains like Armani, Gucci Pelham Bags and Prada to have full ownership of their India operations.

International luxury brand Gucci keeps its Manila boutique constantly stocked with the latest collections launched in its flagship stores abroad. This year, the 2012 Spring/Summer collection was unveiled at Gucci Leather Bags Manila store last April 25.

Brakes on fakes

The Silk Market is cleaning house to sweep out counterfeits, and vendors are finding they must go legit to survive. Han Qiao from China Features reports in Beijing. 

Zhang Guidong sold fake LV and Gucci Joy Bags for eight years in Beijing, until he decided it was time to go legit. Since 2005, the 43-year-old has instead run an authorized Hello Kitty store in the Silk Market, a shopping compound that lures foreign tourists with silk and foreign brand knockoffs.

Victim speaks out as detectives link two attacks‎

“I said, ‘You can have anything – you can have my purse and anything in there. Just please don’t hurt me’.

“He just looks at it, he doesn’t pick it up, and he just looks at me and tells me to go into the parking garage.”

The woman ran and screamed for help as her attacker stood motionless. When she turned around, he had vanished, along with her Gucci Jolicoeur Bags. It is believed he fled on a motorbike along Emerald Terrace as a group of cyclists stopped to help the woman.

The victim said she felt lucky that she had escaped unharmed but wished she had never encountered the man.

The woman said she was now afraid to go out alone.
